GPXplore is an exciting feature within TrainingPeaks Virtual that brings real-world terrain into your indoor training. By using GPS data to turn outdoor routes into virtual rides, GPXplore lets you ride a route’s elevation, turns, and general terrain while blending satellite imagery with 3D graphics to recreate the feel of the landscape around you. It gives you a simple (and fun!) way to bring real, rideable routes to life on your indoor trainer.
Currently, this feature offers two options:
- World Routes: Ride some of the world’s most iconic routes and experience their real topography without leaving your pain cave.
- My Routes: Upload your own GPX files to build custom rides based on real roads, whether you’re preparing for race day or revisiting a favorite route.
Here’s where TrainingPeaks Virtual can take you now.
Passo Dello Stelvio

Location: Bolzano, Italy
Distance: 25.7 km
Vert: 1853 m
A road that has created champions, this Italian pass has been featured in the Giro d’Italia 13 times, often as the high point of the race. With a maximum grade of 10.3% and 48 iconic hairpin switchbacks, it’s a bucket list ride for a reason.
Alpe d’Huez

Location: Le Bourg-d’Oisans, France
Distance: 12.6 km
Vert: 1025 m
The Alpe d’Huez needs no introduction. With 32 appearances in the Tour de France (including in 2013, when it was climbed twice in one stage), this iconic climb has been the site of some of cycling’s greatest victories and defeats. Enjoy grades of up to 15% and 21 meandering switchbacks.
Sa Calobra

Location: Mallorca, Spain
Distance: 9.7 km
Vert: 632 m
Mallorca is a cyclist’s paradise, and Sa Calobra is one of its most recognizable climbs. Featuring a unique “tie knot” switchback with the road looping over itself, cyclists must descend the winding route to the sea and the village of Sa Calobra before climbing back out again. Luckily, in TPV, you get to start at the base.
Flagstaff Road

Location: Colorado, USA
Distance: 6 km
Vert: 358 m
Flagstaff is a staple in the workouts of TrainingPeaks staff, so we thought it fitting to share it with the world. It’s a great place for threshold tests, intervals, or just a satisfying post-work spin. Don’t let the short distance fool you, this climb packs a punch.
Koppenberg

Location: Flemish Ardennes, Belgium
Distance: 1.4 km
Vert: 74 m
If you’ve ever wanted a taste of this decisive climb from the Tour of Flanders, now’s your chance. While the narrow road, roaring crowds, and chaotic cobbles might not translate into Virtual, we have a feeling this could be your new favorite hill sprint.
Parc du Mont-Royal

Location: Quebec, Canada
Distance: 12.6 km
Vert: 285 m
For a more relaxing spin through a picturesque urban park, check out this rolling loop in Montreal. With gentle vertical gain and plenty of turns to keep things interesting, this route proves you don’t need a massive climb to have an enjoyable ride.
