Plan Description

This is an 8 week plan for a sprint distance trail snow tri (5k trail run, 10k fat bike, 2M XC ski).

The plan begins with mostly easy endurance efforts (2 of each discipline, plus 2 strength sessions). Week 4 is a recovery week. In weeks 5-8, the plan progresses to race intensity as the volume drops. Sessions are build using rate of perceived exertion (RPE 1-10)

This plan is intended for an athlete who has some experience with skiing, biking and running (though it's okay if you're a bit rusty). The athlete using this plan should have a base level of fitness that allows for at least 30 minutes of consecutive running or 60 minutes of biking within the first week.

If you are more than 8 weeks out from race day, you can repeat the first 4 weeks and consider adding duration to the easy endurance sessions.

If you have not been lifting weights recently or have never lifted weights, I would recommend that you either skip the weight training recommendations in this plan, or go through the motions with bodyweight only. It's best to advance one skill at a time.

Sessions can be moved throughout the week to accommodate for your life and the weather. As you get closer to race day, be cautious to avoid doing intense sessions back to back. If you are not able to get out on the trails, it's okay to swap for road or whatever biking and running modality suits you best. You can also swap in swimming or other endurance activities if you are not able to ski as regularly as the plan suggests.
