Your Swim Serpentine 2 Mile Swim Plan from a Level 3 WOWSA Coach

Welcome to your training plan!


This plan is ideal if you would like to swim your first 2 mile swim serpentine swim.

If you’re a more experienced open water swimmer who is keen to take on a challenge within the beautiful grounds of Hyde Park, the two-mile distance is for you!
This event will see you swim two full laps of the Serpentine lake, making it the ideal option if you've already completed a one-mile swim outdoors and are looking to build on your distance.

The plan includes:
- Three swims per week - structured sessions so you can load them on to your Garmin etc.
- Swimmer specific Strength & Conditioning Sessions
- Cross Training once a week to build your cardiovascular capability
- Training and event Tips
- Structured sessions you can use with electronic devices

This plan is intended for athletes who have a goal to swim 2 miles. There is no minimum requirement level of fitness but you should be able to swim 400m freestyle/front crawl. This is not a learn to swim program although there is plenty of drill work to help you develop technique.

Equipment required: pull buoy, fins and paddles

I have completed this swim and the festival of swimming in Hyde Park is amazing!

Medal and souvenir swim hat for every finisher
All finishers will receive a medal after their swim – no matter what their time and ability – as well as a souvenir swim hat to wear on the day!

If you like a challenge this swim forms part of the London Classics which I completed in 2018 so know what it take to complete the triple.

The two-mile distance at Swim Serpentine is also one of the three events that make up the London Classics – a trio of prestigious events brought together to create an endurance challenge like no other. The other events that comprise the London Classics are the TCS London Marathon and RideLondon-Essex 100. The Swim Serpentine event is an open water swim so it's advisable to do as many swims as you can the open water to get used to the conditions and practice skills such as sighting.
