Plan Description
In partnership with Mammoth Endurance, we are excited to offer this race specific BIKE training plan for the FLORIDA DOUBLE ANVIL TRIATHLON RELAY. This 12-week training plan is for the 224 mile ULTRA BIKE relay portion of the team race. This indoor-optional ultra plan revs up quickly from 10.5 up to 18.5 hours per week of cycling that leaves more time for recovery. Workouts can be done outdoors or an indoor bike trainer.

Given the 224-mile cycling segment, the athlete must already be able to
- ride 3 to 4 hours comfortably at low aerobic intensity.
- hold a steady Z2 power output for extended periods (around 65–75% of FTP).
- have completed at least one ride of 60–70 miles or more within the past month.
- be familiar with on-bike fueling (200–300+ calories per hour).
Recommended baseline bike fitness:
- FTP between 150–250W depending on body size (or similar aerobic competency).
- No major bike-fit problems or chronic saddle issues.
The taper phase is 2 weeks, allowing for flexibility in race scheduling and leaving you physically recovered and mentally inspired. Athletes will benefit from the use of an indoor trainer as a tool to gain mental strength, simulating the 5 mile loop course. This detailed plan includes weekly training goals.
Engaging in ultra distances endurance sports should be cleared by your primary care physician.
