Balanced Durability, Phase 3: Compound (Repeatable)
Build a peak, season-proof aerobic base.
Phase 3 takes you to the highest sustainable aerobic volume across both sports: longer back-to-backs, a genuinely big weekend, and optional easy doubles for those with the appetite. The bike remains the engine room of your base volume, so you can carry real hours without grinding your legs down.
This is the block advanced athletes repeat, running it twice or more to extend their base toward 12-plus weeks of deep, season-proof preparation. Finish it and you are ready to layer in the quality training that defines your season, standing on a foundation most athletes never take the time to build.
This is Phase 3 of a 3-part Balanced Durability set. Each phase is a 4-week block. Run it as your capstone, repeat it to go deeper, or connect all three for a full three months of base before your season's quality training begins.
👋 Hey, I'm Patrick McCrann, head coach at Endurance Nation. I've been coaching endurance athletes for 20+ years, and I race the same stuff you do: 30 Ironman finishes, a Big Buckle at Leadville, 5 BQs and a top 10 at Unbound 200. EN has helped 1000s of age-group athletes get faster with the time they actually have. Whether you're following one of our training plans or working with me directly, the approach is the same: smart structure, no junk miles, and coaching that respects your life.
