Sprint Training Plan Overview – Blenheim Triathlon Edition

This structured training plan is designed specifically for the Blenheim Sprint Triathlon by experienced coaches who not only know the race—but live right next to the course. Tailored for beginner triathletes, this plan includes expert guidance, race-specific tips, and a progressive structure to help you perform at your best.

Athletes can email their coach at any time with questions, and 1:1 coaching calls are available for purchase if additional support is needed.

This plan is ideal for athletes using a cycling power meter and GPS watch for tracking training data and progression.

Plan Structure: Three Key Phases

Phase 1: Specific 1 – Building the Foundation
- Focuses on steady endurance work with light speed sessions.
- Introduces strength-building elements, including hill workouts and swim paddles.
- Sets the groundwork for race-specific fitness.

Phase 2: Specific 2 – Tempo & Efficiency
- Adds longer, steady efforts just below race pace (tempo training).
- Improves aerobic endurance, pacing skills, and overall efficiency.
- Prepares the body to handle sustained effort over the full race distance.

Phase 3: Peak & Competition Phase (Taper)
- Shifts the focus from building fitness to sharpening race readiness.
- Reduces training volume while maintaining key intensities.
- Ensures you arrive on race day feeling strong, fresh, and confident.
