Plan Description
This 8-week program is designed for the beginner triathlete. It is ideal for someone completing their first triathlon or Sprint Distance event. The training sessions target the development of the fitness level and skills required to complete, and enjoy, a Sprint Distance Triathlon (750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run).
The program utilises the principle of progressive overload, whereby the participant can expect a gradual increase in training duration, distance and intensity across 3-4 sessions for 8 weeks. Training sessions are programmed using the metrics of Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE, to determine the intensity of the session), duration and distance. A basic GPS watch with swim, cycle and run functions or the use of an activity tracking app such as Strava will assist in the accurate completion of this program. Heart rate monitors or power meters are not needed for this program.
Each training session includes a 'skill development recommendation' to educate and empower the participant with the skills required to have a successful and enjoyable triathlon experience.
