THE TERRATIDES APPROACH
Performance is built through consistent training, progressive loading, and appropriately designed intensity balanced with recovery. This plan is designed to help you achieve race-specific performance by training consistently alongside the demands of everyday life.
Train smarter, stay healthy, and build a lifelong relationship with swim, bike, and run.
TERRATIDES TRAINING TRACKS
TerraTides training plans follow a six-track progression designed to meet athletes at different experience levels and training capacities. Tracks 1–2 are designed for beginners, Tracks 3–4 for intermediate athletes, and Tracks 5–6 for advanced athletes. Each track represents a greater training commitment, allowing you to choose a plan that matches your experience, current fitness, available time, and goals.
Within each race distance, progression is built through a phased approach to increasing weekly and overall training load to meet the demands of the target event.
WHO IS THIS PLAN FOR?
This plan is for beginners with no or limited previous triathlon experience or athletes just returning to training with up to 4-7 hours/week of availability and 12 weeks before your target event.
Before beginning, athletes should be capable of running for 40 minutes, cycling for 45 minutes, and swimming 1,000 meters/1,100 yards (non-consecutively).
PERIODIZATION STRUCTURE
THRESHOLD TESTS/PREPARATION: Begin by setting or re-establishing your thresholds in each discipline.
GENERAL: Develop aerobic capacity while progressively preparing the body for higher training loads.
RACE SPECIFIC: Emphasis shifts to the demands of race day. Key sessions become increasingly specific to target race demands, intensity, duration, and pacing.
TAPER: Training volume is reduced while maintaining appropriate intensity to promote recovery and readiness for race day.
