This plan is built for first-time Full Distance athletes who want a structured, evidence-based path to their first finish line — not a set of random 'hero workouts'. It follows a polarized training system: genuinely easy days and genuinely hard days, with almost no time spent in the grey zone in between. It's the same approach used to guide athletes to a professional world title and three IRONMAN age-group world titles, adapted here for a first full-distance finish.
If you're looking for a quick fix or prefer to freelance your own sessions, this isn't the right plan for you. If you're willing to trust the structure — even when easy is supposed to feel slow — it is.
What to expect: every session is fully structured with a clear purpose and target, based on heart rate rather than power, so no power meter is required — just a heart rate monitor (chest strap recommended). Pool access is needed for the swim sessions, and open-water access is recommended (though not required) for the open-water simulation sessions later in the plan. Free email support is included throughout the full 52 weeks for any questions about the plan or how to adapt it to your schedule.
From your first triathlon to a world title: I coach endurance athletes at every level using the same principle — polarized training. Easy is genuinely easy, hard is genuinely hard, and that structure works for beginners just as well as it did for the athletes who won world titles with it.
