Hey, I'm Patrick McCrann, head coach and founder of Endurance Nation. I've been coaching endurance athletes for close to 20 years, and I've got the race resume to back it up: 30 Ironman finishes, a Big Buckle at Leadville, and a top 10 at Unbound 200. I've coached thousands of athletes through plans just like this one, and I build every block from the same methodology I use with my coached athletes. I know what Ironman racing actually demands because I'm out there doing it. Enjoy the work!
You've got a life, a job, and people who need you — and you still want to race a great Ironman. The EN Full Race Prep Balanced plan is 12 weeks of structured, progressive training built for the athlete who needs training to fit around a full schedule without sacrificing a strong finish. We've evenly distributed the run and the bike so no single discipline eats your week, making this our most completable full-distance plan. You'll arrive at the start line prepared, durable, and ready to have the day you came for.
WHO THIS PLAN IS FOR
This plan is for all abilities — whether it's your first full distance or your fifth, whether you're chasing a specific finish time or simply want to cross the line strong. What defines this athlete isn't experience level; it's a busy life. You have limited, predictable training time and you need every session to count. You want a plan that respects your schedule, keeps all three disciplines moving forward together, and gets you race-ready without demanding the volume of a podium-focused block. A current FTP and the ability to train with power and pace will help you get the most out of the work, but this plan meets you where you are.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
This plan trains all three disciplines in balance, with the swim, bike, and run each given the time it needs and nothing wasted. Rather than overloading one discipline, we've distributed the work evenly so the weekly load stays manageable and repeatable — the single biggest predictor of showing up on race day prepared. Swimming keeps your feel for the water and builds the aerobic base to get you through 2.4 miles comfortably. Cycling develops the steady, sustainable power that carries you across 112 miles, moving from Z1/Z2 endurance early to race-specific efforts as the plan progresses. Running builds the durability you need to hold it together across the marathon, with long runs placed to develop fatigue resistance without wrecking the rest of your week.
The balance is the point. A plan you can actually complete beats a harder plan you abandon halfway through. Every week is designed to be finished, not just attempted — so you stack consistent training instead of chasing big weeks and paying for them with missed sessions and burnout. Race rehearsals give you the chance to test your fueling, pacing, and gear under real fatigue before race day, so nothing on course is a surprise.
Guard your consistency. Manage your recovery, manage your life, and keep stringing weeks together. That's how a busy athlete gets to the start line ready — not through any single heroic week, but through twelve of them done well.
WHAT'S INCLUDED
All structured workouts are built in the TrainingPeaks Structured Workout Builder, so they export directly to Zwift, Garmin, and Wahoo — no guessing at intervals. Each week begins with a coaching note explaining the purpose of that week and what to pay attention to. A Quick Start guide is attached to Day 1 covering how to follow the plan, key terminology, and how to set your training zones.

👋 Hey, I'm Patrick McCrann, head coach at Endurance Nation. I've been coaching endurance athletes for 20+ years, and I race the same stuff you do: 30 Ironman finishes, a Big Buckle at Leadville, 5 BQs and a top 10 at Unbound 200. EN has helped 1000s of age-group athletes get faster with the time they actually have. Whether you're following one of our training plans or working with me directly, the approach is the same: smart structure, no junk miles, and coaching that respects your life.
