Norseman Xtreme Triathlon Training Plan 2026 | 17-Week XTRI Programme

Searching for a Norseman training plan or Norseman Xtreme Triathlon programme? This 17-week plan is the most demanding in the Horsepower Coaching range, built specifically for Norseman, the hardest triathlon on the planet.

Athletes jump from a ferry into Hardangerfjord at 5am, swim 3.8km to shore, cycle 180km with over 5000m of climbing through the Norwegian mountains, and then run a 42km mountain marathon finishing at the summit of Gaustatoppen. Only those who qualify for the black t-shirt get to the very top. Preparation for Norseman is not like preparation for any other event. This plan reflects that.

Volume builds from 13 hours per week in Block 1 to 17 hours in the final build block, the highest load in our plan range. Open water swimming is prioritised across two to three sessions per week. The bike program is built around sustained climbing capacity and extreme fatigue resistance. Run sessions build mountain durability and altitude-ready endurance.
