This 36-week Full Distance Triathlon training plan is built to fully prepare you for the unique demands of racing in Tours Metropole – Loire Valley. With a river swim in the Cher, a fast and mostly flat bike route past historic castles, and a scenic run along the Cher river and through the Parc Honoré de Balzac, this course rewards athletes who arrive with strong endurance, efficient pacing skills, and the ability to hold consistent power over time. Every phase of this program is purpose-built to match those course characteristics so you arrive confident, prepared, and ready to perform.
You begin with a 12-week endurance-building base phase that develops aerobic strength, essential for the steady river swim and controlled early pacing on race day. From there, you progress into a 24-week Full Distance Triathlon build plan that mirrors the rhythm of the Tours course with structured long rides for flat-terrain power, sustained tempo work for bike-course efficiency, and progressive long runs to prepare for the fast, runnable terrain along the Cher.
Throughout the plan, your training integrates open-water skills ideal for the 3.8 km Cher river swim, plus bike sessions that improve steady-state power output—critical for a flat and fast course where consistent effort leads to strong results.
