Plan Description

This Long Distance Triathlon Almere-Amsterdam training plan is designed exclusively for the experienced, advanced triathlete ready to excel on one of the world’s fastest and most unique Long Distance Triathlon courses. If you’ve already built a solid aerobic base and significant mileage, this 24-week program will elevate your endurance, power, and race-day execution to elite amateur levels.

Prerequisite training or base mileage is non-negotiable. The plan kicks off with a demanding 25-minute Anaerobic Threshold Interval Training session in week one, setting a challenging tone from the start. ATTEMPT this program only after fully developing your aerobic system.

Swim workouts focus on open water skills and stroke efficiency, preparing you for the two-lap, 3.8 km swim in Almere’s Weerwater lake. Advanced video swim drills and targeted open water sessions help you maintain pace and technique in race conditions.

The bike training prepares you to master the fast, flat 180 km route through Flevoland, battling wind and maintaining power along dikes and polder terrain. Heart rate and power interval sessions, anaerobic threshold efforts, and hill climb strength workouts build the sustained power and explosive strength needed for the two-lap course.

Running the marathon distance in four laps plus extra segments demands endurance and mental toughness. This plan’s V02 max intervals, ATP-PC power training, and strength sessions simulate cumulative fatigue. Progressive brick sessions ensure you’re fluent in race transitions and ready to perform at your peak through Almere’s scenic, mixed-terrain run course.
