The Long Distance Triathlon Almere-Amsterdam presents a one-of-a-kind challenge with a 3.8 km swim, a fast 180 km bike ride, and a scenic 42.2 km run—all held entirely below sea level. This training plan is meticulously crafted to prepare you for every nuance of this demanding course.

🏊‍♂️ The swim features two laps in the calm Weerwater lake, requiring strong endurance and efficient technique. Our plan includes focused open-water swim drills to build your confidence and power for the counterclockwise swim start.

🚴‍♀️ The bike course, two laps across Flevoland’s flat polder terrain, demands strength against persistent wind and sustained speed on smooth roads. Interval training and brick sessions in the plan develop your anaerobic threshold and cycling power to excel on these long, fast flats with scenic views of the IJmeer and Oostvaardersplassen wildlife reserve.

🏃‍♂️ The run consists of four laps around the Weerwater lake, mixing urban and green spaces. Gradual run volume progression, heart rate-based intervals, and strength work prepare you to maintain steady pacing and finish strong at the Esplanade.

Prerequisite Training Required: This plan is designed for athletes with a solid base of training or mileage. It’s not for the faint-hearted. From week one, expect to push yourself with VO2 interval training that kickstarts your journey to race readiness.
