The Long Distance Triathlon Almere-Amsterdam is a remarkable race featuring a 3.8 km swim in the calm Weerwater lake, a fast and flat 180 km bike course across Flevoland’s polder terrain, and a 42.2 km run around the scenic lake with a festive finish on the Esplanade. Known as the only long distance triathlon held entirely below sea level, it demands endurance, strength, and strategic pacing against wind and varied terrain.

This Long Distance Triathlon Almere-Amsterdam Training Plan is expertly designed to prepare you for every challenge of this iconic race, ensuring you arrive race day ready, confident, and strong. Here's how this six-month program aligns perfectly with the demands of the course:

✅ Essential Base Training Requirement
Before diving into the full program, a 10-12 week base endurance phase is recommended to build foundational aerobic fitness. This prepares your body for the intensity of the Long Distance Triathlon training plan and reduces injury risk.

With two laps in a freshwater lake, the plan includes detailed swim drills and open water technique sessions, helping you build the stamina and efficiency needed for the 3.8 km swim.
