Get ready to conquer the Full Distance Triathlon Arizona with a training plan designed for beginner triathletes eager to build fitness and race with confidence. This six-month Full Distance Triathlon training plan guides you step-by-step through the unique challenges of the Arizona course — from the cool swim in Tempe Town Lake to the rolling bike loops and the flat, fast marathon finish.

Before you start: Ensure you have a solid fitness base. You should be comfortable swimming 2.5 kilometers, cycling at least 45 miles, and running continuously for 60 minutes. This prepares you to build safely and effectively toward Full Distance Triathlon success.

🏊‍♂️ Swim with confidence: Master the calm, controlled waters of Tempe Town Lake’s 2.4-mile single loop. With easy-to-follow swim drills and VO2 interval training, you’ll improve stroke technique and build endurance to glide smoothly from floating dock start to finish.

🚴‍♀️ Build strength and speed on the bike: The 112-mile bike course is rolling and scenic, with three loops through stunning desert landscapes. The plan gradually increases bike time and intensity using heart rate and perceived exertion zones, preparing you for gradual climbs on Beeline Highway and fast flats on smooth roads. You’ll build stamina and mental toughness to push through all loops.

🏃‍♂️ Run smart and strong: The flat, PR-friendly 26.2-mile run around Tempe Town Lake and Papago Park is a perfect finish.
