Plan Description
Full Distance Triathlon Lake Placid:
The race begins with a 2.4-mile swim in the calm, clear waters of Mirror Lake. Athletes follow a two-loop course, with navigation eased by an underwater cable. In July, the water temperature averages 72ยฐF (22ยฐC), and while wetsuits are optional, many participants opt for them to enhance comfort and buoyancy.
The bike leg features a 112-mile, two-loop ride through the challenging hills of the Adirondacks. With nearly 8,000 feet of elevation gain, this is one of the toughest courses in triathlon. Notable sections include the exciting "Keene Descent" and the formidable "Papa Bear Hill."
The race concludes with a 26.2-mile marathon, consisting of two loops through Lake Placid Village and along the scenic River Road. Rolling hills add to the challenge, and athletes must fight through accumulated fatigue. The cool July temperatures of 63ยฐF (17ยฐC) and cheering spectators help motivate competitors to the finish line.

But before you dive in, a word of caution: Prerequisite training or base mileage is non-negotiable. This is not a plan for beginners. We repeat, ATTEMPT this program only after having first developed your base Aerobic System. Our Full DIST plan kicks off with a challenging 25-minute Anaerobic Threshold Interval Training session in week one. Are you up for the challenge? During this 24-week journey, you'll gradually ramp up your training from just under 10.5hrs in the first week to a peak of approximately 18hrs per week. That's dedication!
