FULL DISTANCE TRIATHLON TEXAS TRAINING PLAN

Train Smart. Race Strong. Dominate The Woodlands.

Conquering the Full Distance Triathlon in Texas—a 2.4-mile swim in Lake Woodlands, a fast and sun-exposed 112-mile ride on the Hardy Toll Road, and a high-energy 26.2-mile run through packed spectator zones—demands more than just willpower. It requires a race-specific training plan built to prepare your body and mind for the intensity of championship-level racing in warm and windy conditions.

Our 36-week Full Distance Triathlon Training Plan is engineered for athletes racing The Woodlands. It’s split into two powerful phases:

Phase 1: The 12-Week Foundational Build
Gain control in the water with swim drills and video-guided technique sessions designed to sharpen your form and boost open-water confidence. You'll begin with a manageable 4.5 hours of training in Week 1, building up to 6 hours by Week 11. The final week caps off with a crucial brick session to test your endurance and prep your body for longer efforts.

Phase 2: The 24-Week Race-Specific Training Block
Designed with the demands of the Texas course in mind, this progressive build starts at 7.5 hours per week and peaks at 14.5 hours. You'll develop race-day fitness with structured tempo sessions, heat-adapted workouts, and Hardy Toll Road-style rides to simulate wind exposure and sun. Run workouts mimic the three-loop, spectator-packed course—helping you master pacing and mental focus amid crowd energy.

From open-water simulations to heat training, every session is crafted to prepare you for the Texas climate and terrain. This plan doesn’t just get you across the finish line—it builds the stamina, confidence, and strategy to thrive in the North American Championship setting.
