Plan Description

If you're targeting the legendary Full Distance Triathlon New Zealand in Taupō, this is the training plan built to match your ambition. Known as one of the most iconic full-distance triathlons in the world—second only to Kona—this race demands physical precision and mental grit. With a pristine 3.8km swim in Lake Taupō’s 65°F (18°C) waters, a 180km rolling bike through the stunning countryside, and a four-lap 42.2km lakefront run in mild 74°F (23°C) temperatures, Taupō is as scenic as it is challenging.

This Six-Month Advanced Full Distance Triathlon Plan is designed specifically for experienced athletes ready to make their mark on this historic course. Be warned: this is not a beginner’s program. If you haven’t built a solid aerobic base, start there first. But if you’re ready to train with purpose, this plan will push your limits, sharpen your performance, and prepare you to thrive in Taupō.

You’ll progress from just under 10.5 hours of weekly training in Week 1 to a peak of 18 hours per week, precisely tuned to develop the endurance, strength, and speed needed to excel across all three disciplines.
