Set against the breathtaking natural backdrop of Taupō, New Zealand, the Full Distance Triathlon New Zealand is one of the most iconic endurance events in the world. Known for its crystal-clear 3.8km swim in Lake Taupō (avg. 65°F/18°C), a rolling 180km bike ride through picturesque countryside, and a scenic 42.2km four-lap lakefront run, this race combines physical challenge with unforgettable beauty and community spirit. Our Six-Month Full Distance New Zealand Triathlon Training Plan is designed to prepare you—physically and mentally—for this extraordinary event.

Before beginning this plan, ensure you meet the basic prerequisites: the ability to swim 2.5km, bike at least 45 miles, and run for 60 minutes continuously. From there, we’ll guide you through a progressive training journey using a smart 3:1 structure—three weeks of focused effort followed by one week of active recovery. This method promotes sustainable gains, reduces the risk of overtraining, and keeps you motivated all the way to race day.
