Forty-four weeks gives you something powerful: time to build without forcing the process.
This Senior 60+ Half Distance Triathlon Training Plan is designed for athletes who want to prepare for Campeche with enough runway to develop endurance, preserve strength, maintain speed, rehearse race execution, and recover properly along the way.
NO RUSHED FOUNDATION
The first 12 weeks begin around 4 hours of training and gradually build toward 10.5 hours.
The priorities are aerobic conditioning, movement quality, technique, mobility, and foundational strength.
That makes the opening phase especially useful if you are newer to endurance training or returning after time away. You are not asked to perform before you have rebuilt the capacity to train consistently.
THE NEXT 32 WEEKS ADD SPECIFICITY
Training volume eventually peaks around 12.5 hours per week.
Long aerobic sessions build durability.
VO2 max work keeps higher-end aerobic power in the program.
Brick sessions improve bike-to-run execution.
Neuromuscular drills support coordination and transition skills.
Resistance training provides useful stimulus for muscle retention, durability, movement quality, and bone loading.
Power, heart rate, and RPE give each session a clear purpose.
And the 2:1 structure places one recovery week after every two progressive weeks, creating frequent opportunities to absorb the work before adding more.
CAMPECHE BECOMES THE TEST
The race combines a 1.9 km single-loop swim, 90 km of cycling along the Malecón and Mérida Highway, and a flat, three-loop 21.1 km run through Campeche’s waterfront and historic areas.
Warm, humid conditions increase the value of pacing discipline, fueling, hydration, and late-race durability.
C races give you low-pressure opportunities to test equipment, transitions, and fueling. B races let you rehearse execution under greater race-day pressure before the A race.
Use the Race Predictor Calculator to establish performance reference points, the Triathlon Fueling Calculator to refine nutrition, and the Race Pace Strategy Calculator to organize effort across all three disciplines.
Device-compatible workouts and video-guided swim drills simplify execution, while personalized email coach support is available when training, recovery, or race-week decisions need more context.
Forty-four weeks is not excessive preparation. For the 60+ athlete, it is strategic preparation: enough time to build, absorb, rehearse, adjust, and arrive in Campeche with a deeper reserve of fitness and fewer unanswered questions.
