Campeche is not won by rushing fitness. It is raced well by arriving durable enough to stay composed when heat, humidity, and accumulated fatigue begin to matter.
This 36-week Senior 60+ Half Distance Triathlon Training Plan gives experienced athletes more time to rebuild, strengthen, sharpen, and prepare specifically for that challenge.
START WHERE YOU ARE
The first 12 weeks restore the foundation.
Aerobic conditioning, swim technique, functional strength, mobility, and muscular endurance come first, making this phase especially valuable if you are returning after time off or a recent training interruption.
Then the plan becomes progressively more race-specific.
Weeks 13–24 introduce tempo work, open-water preparation, and longer endurance sessions.
Weeks 25–36 sharpen race readiness through brick workouts, threshold training, VO2 max intervals, and increasingly specific pacing work.
Training begins around 7.5 hours per week and builds toward approximately 12 hours.
WHY THE 2:1 STRUCTURE MATTERS
Two progressive weeks are followed by one recovery week.
That rhythm gives you frequent opportunities to absorb training stress, preserve consistency, and maintain the quality of the harder work that follows.
It is not less ambitious. It is better controlled.
CAMPECHE REWARDS CONTROL
The race combines a 1.9 km single-loop swim, 90 km of cycling along the Malecón and Mérida Highway, and a flat, three-loop 21.1 km run through the waterfront and historic city areas.
Warm, humid November conditions can make early pacing mistakes expensive.
That is why aerobic durability, brick training, heart rate and power-based pacing, strength work, and race-specific endurance all have a direct purpose here.
Resistance training supports muscle retention, durability, movement quality, and bone-loading stimulus. Neuromuscular drills keep coordination and transition skills sharp. Video-guided swim work helps refine efficiency without adding unnecessary complexity.
Use the Race Predictor Calculator to track a realistic performance reference, the Triathlon Fueling Calculator to organize nutrition and hydration, and the Race Pace Strategy Calculator to build a deliberate plan for all three disciplines.
Personalized email coach support is available when recovery, pacing, scheduling, or race-week decisions need context.
Thirty-six weeks gives you room to rebuild what needs rebuilding, preserve what still performs well, and arrive in Campeche with enough depth to race the final loop with intention rather than simply manage the finish.
