Forty-four weeks gives a beginner something more useful than confidence: familiarity. By race day in Sharm El-Sheikh, the swim, the bike, the run, the transitions, and the pacing decisions should all feel like things you have practiced before.
That is the purpose of this Beginner Half Distance Triathlon plan.
You start with a 12-week foundation focused on strength, conditioning, base endurance, and swim technique. No prerequisite mileage is required. The objective is to build enough structure that later training feels like progression, not overload.
At week 13, the 32-week race-specific phase begins at approximately 9.5 hours per week and gradually builds to a peak near 14 hours in week 39. RPE and heart-rate guided bike and Run/Jog sessions teach you how to control effort. Instructional swim drills reinforce technique. Beginner-specific strength sessions support movement quality and durability.
As fitness develops, the work becomes more demanding. Endurance remains central, but VO2 intervals and anaerobic-threshold training are introduced progressively so you are not asked to handle advanced intensity before you are ready for it.
Sharm El-Sheikh then becomes less mysterious.
The 1.9 km single-loop Red Sea swim is something you have prepared for with technique and open-water work. The 90 km single-loop bike, with rolling terrain, gradual climbs, fast descents, and exposed roads, becomes a pacing exercise rather than a guessing game. The two-loop 21.1 km run becomes the final discipline of a sequence your training has already rehearsed.
B and C races make the long runway even more valuable. Use C races to practice transitions, equipment, pacing, and fueling with low pressure. Use B races to test those choices under a harder effort before your A race.
The Race Predictor Calculator helps set realistic performance checkpoints, the Triathlon Fueling Calculator helps you refine nutrition, and the Race Pace Strategy Calculator helps you organize race-day effort. Personalized email coach support is available when a workout or training decision needs clarification.
The goal is not to arrive at Sharm El-Sheikh hoping you can handle the distance. It is to arrive recognizing the demands because you have spent 44 weeks learning them one by one.
