A 44-week build changes the equation for a high-performance amateur. Instead of forcing foundation, strength, high-intensity development, and race-specific preparation into the same compressed window, this Advanced Challenge Canberra 100 plan gives each quality time to develop before the next one takes priority.
The first 12 weeks establish the platform: aerobic endurance, swim technique, functional strength, and general durability. No prior base mileage is required. From there, the plan transitions into a 32-week race-specific progression, beginning at approximately 9.5 hours per week and building to a peak near 14 hours in week 39.
The workload follows a 3:1 rhythm of three progressive weeks followed by one active-recovery week. That structure supports consistent overload while protecting the quality of the harder sessions that matter most later in the build.
For Challenge Canberra 100, the training emphasis becomes increasingly specific. The 2 km lake swim is supported by technique-focused work and progressive endurance. The four-lap 80 km bike rewards athletes who can manage repeated changes in effort, so the plan develops Endurance Base Aerobic fitness, VO2 max, anaerobic threshold, anaerobic power, and ATP-PC capacity rather than relying on steady riding alone. Functional strength transitions into more conventional strength work as the program advances.
That matters on Canberra’s faster sections, rolling terrain, and the Hindmarsh climb, where the goal is to produce power without wasting it. Brick training then prepares you to carry that discipline into the three-lap 18 km run.
B and C races give the long build measurable checkpoints. C races can be used to test equipment, transitions, pacing, and fueling with low pressure. B races provide harder rehearsals before the A race.
Use the Race Predictor Calculator to track performance potential, the Race Pace Strategy Calculator to organize race execution, and the Triathlon Fueling Calculator to refine nutrition. Personalized email coach support is available when training intensity, recovery, or race strategy needs a second set of eyes.
Forty-four weeks gives you the time to build a bigger engine, sharpen more systems, and test your decisions before Challenge Canberra 100 demands all of them at once.
