For a Masters 40+ athlete, a 44-week build creates room to do more than accumulate fitness. It gives you time to develop the durability, pacing control, and race-specific consistency needed for the Versailles Half Distance Triathlon, with its 1.9 km swim, rolling 90 km bike through the Chevreuse Valley, and three-loop 21.1 km run through Versailles.
Your preparation is divided into two distinct phases.
Weeks 1–12 establish the platform. Training begins near 4 hours per week and progresses toward 10.5 hours, with emphasis on foundational endurance, swim technique, general conditioning, and Masters-focused strength work. No prior endurance base is required.
Weeks 13–44 shift toward Half Distance Triathlon specificity. Weekly volume ranges from roughly 8 to 12.5 hours, using a 3:1 rhythm of three progressive weeks followed by one recovery week. RPE, heart rate, and power guidance help keep the workload precise, while Garmin, smartwatch, and compatible platform integration make structured sessions easy to follow.
Versailles rewards athletes who can manage the bike intelligently. Rolling terrain and notable climbs favor controlled power rather than repeated surges, so the plan uses endurance riding, VO2 max work, anaerobic intervals, and brick sessions to prepare you for the 90 km course without compromising the run.
Swim training includes video-guided technique drills to improve efficiency for the 1.9 km race segment. On the run, brick work and progressive intensity help prepare you for three 7 km loops where pacing discipline becomes increasingly important as fatigue builds.
The longer timeline also creates space for planned B and C races. These lower-priority events can be used to rehearse pacing, transitions, equipment, and fueling before your A-race.
Three race-readiness tools are included: the Race Predictor Calculator for performance estimates, the Race Pace Strategy Calculator for swim-bike-run execution, and the Triathlon Fueling Calculator for building your race-day fueling approach.
Personalized email coach support is included whenever you need practical guidance during the plan.
Choose this Versailles Half Distance Triathlon training plan if you want a measured, performance-focused build that respects recovery while preparing you for the specific demands of the course.
