A long build can make a demanding first Half Distance Triathlon far more manageable. This 44-week Beginner plan gives you time to develop from the ground up before taking on the 1.9 km swim, rolling 90 km bike through the Chevreuse Valley, and three-loop 21.1 km run through Versailles.
The first 12 weeks focus on the essentials: strength, conditioning, aerobic endurance, and swim technique. There is no prerequisite mileage requirement, so the early phase is designed to establish consistency before the larger race-specific workload begins.
From week 13, training moves into a 32-week Half Distance Triathlon build. Weekly volume starts around 9.5 hours and gradually rises toward a peak of roughly 14 hours in week 39. The progression shifts from foundational strength and technique toward endurance, VO2 interval training, and anaerobic-threshold work as race day approaches.
Versailles makes that progression useful. The rolling 90 km bike course includes notable climbs, so RPE and heart rate-based cycling sessions help you learn how to control effort rather than overreact to every change in gradient. Run/jog sessions use the same structured approach, helping you develop pacing discipline for the three 7 km run loops.
Swim preparation stays technique-led, with instructional drill videos supporting better movement in the water before endurance demands increase. Beginner-specific strength sessions give you a clear way to build durability alongside swim, bike, and run training.
The 44-week format also gives you room to rehearse. Planned B and C race windows let you practice transitions, pacing, fueling, equipment choices, and race-day routines before your main event in Versailles.
Race preparation is supported by three included tools: the Race Predictor Calculator to estimate potential performance, the Race Pace Strategy Calculator to organize swim-bike-run execution, and the Triathlon Fueling Calculator to build your fueling approach.
Personalized email coach support is included whenever you need practical guidance during the plan.
Choose this Versailles Half Distance Triathlon training plan if you want a beginner-friendly path with enough time to build fitness, test your preparation, and arrive on race day with a clear execution plan.
