A longer build can be especially valuable when the goal is to arrive at Versailles strong, durable, and well-rehearsed rather than simply fit enough to finish. This 44-week Senior 60+ Half Distance Triathlon training plan combines a 12-week foundation with 32 weeks of race-specific preparation for the 1.9 km swim, rolling 90 km bike through the Chevreuse Valley, and three-loop 21.1 km run through Versailles.
Phase 1: Build the base
The first 12 weeks progress from about 4 hours to 10.5 hours per week, emphasizing aerobic conditioning, mobility, movement quality, foundational strength, and technique across all three disciplines. It is designed to support athletes who are newer to endurance training or returning after time away.
Phase 2: Prepare for Versailles
The following 32 weeks develop the endurance and race-specific skills needed for the course, with training volume peaking near 12.5 hours per week. A 2:1 work-to-recovery structure provides two progressive weeks followed by one recovery week, helping you manage training stress while maintaining consistency.
The rolling Versailles bike course rewards steady output and good judgment. Heart rate, power, and RPE-guided sessions, VO2 max work, pacing intervals, and progressive brick training help you practice controlled effort across the 90 km ride and transition into the run without spending too much energy too early.
Swim sessions remain technique-driven, using drill progressions to improve efficiency for the 1.9 km race swim. Neuromuscular work, strength training, and movement-focused sessions support coordination, muscle maintenance, bone health, mobility, and overall durability.
A 44-week plan also gives you room to test your preparation. Scheduled B and C race windows provide practical opportunities to rehearse pacing, transitions, equipment, and fueling before your A-race.
The plan includes the Race Predictor Calculator, Race Pace Strategy Calculator, and Triathlon Fueling Calculator to help estimate performance, organize race execution, and build a practical fueling approach.
Personalized email coach support is included whenever you need guidance during training.
Choose this plan if you want a measured, long-range path to the Versailles Half Distance Triathlon that balances endurance, strength, recovery, and race rehearsal with the specific demands of the course.
