Versailles is not a course where fitness alone carries the day. This 36-week Intermediate Half Distance Triathlon training plan is built for athletes stepping beyond Sprint and Olympic racing who want a longer, more deliberate progression toward the 1.9 km swim, rolling 90 km bike through the Chevreuse Valley, and three-loop 21.1 km run through Versailles.
The first 12 weeks rebuild the platform: aerobic conditioning, strength, swim technique, and consistent training habits. That makes this plan especially useful if your recent endurance training has been inconsistent or you want more preparation time before race-specific work begins.
The following 24 weeks shift the emphasis toward execution. Training starts around 7.5 hours per week and builds toward approximately 12 hours, using a 3:1 structure of three loading weeks followed by one active-recovery week. Heart rate and power-based sessions give you clear intensity targets, and Garmin-compatible workouts simplify day-to-day execution.
Versailles asks for restraint on the bike. Rolling terrain and notable climbs can tempt athletes into repeated surges, so tempo work, progressive endurance rides, VO2 max intervals, anaerobic-threshold sessions, and brick training are used to develop stronger pacing control and better durability over the full 90 km.
Swim training begins with strength and technique, then progresses toward endurance and open-water practice for the 1.9 km race swim. On the run, the three 7 km loops reward athletes who can settle quickly after the bike and preserve pace as fatigue rises. Progressive bricks and structured run intensity help prepare you for that exact transition.
Strength work remains targeted throughout the plan, supporting durability without competing unnecessarily with key endurance sessions.
For race planning, you also receive the Race Predictor Calculator, Race Pace Strategy Calculator, and Triathlon Fueling Calculator to estimate performance, organize swim-bike-run execution, and shape your fueling approach.
Personalized email coach support is included whenever you need help interpreting the plan or making sense of a training question.
Choose this plan if you want 36 weeks to build, sharpen, and arrive at Versailles with the endurance, pacing discipline, and race-specific preparation the course demands.
