For a Masters 40+ athlete preparing for the Versailles Half Distance Triathlon, the advantage comes from using training stress with precision. This 36-week plan gives you 12 weeks to rebuild or strengthen your aerobic base, functional strength, and swim efficiency before moving into 24 weeks of race-specific preparation for the 1.9 km swim, rolling 90 km bike through the Chevreuse Valley, and three-loop 21.1 km run through Versailles.
The first phase creates room to build properly. There is no requirement to arrive with peak fitness; the base block develops aerobic durability, core strength, and movement quality so the harder work that follows has somewhere to land.
During the 24-week build and peak phase, training begins around 7.5 hours per week and rises gradually toward approximately 12 hours. A 3:1 structure of three progressive weeks followed by one recovery week helps you manage fatigue while maintaining consistency across a long preparation cycle.
Versailles places a premium on controlled power. The bike course's rolling terrain and notable climbs reward athletes who can respond to changes in gradient without wasting energy. Heart rate and power-based sessions, tempo work, VO2 max intervals, and structured brick workouts develop the pacing control and cycling durability needed to protect the run.
Swim training progresses from technique-focused work and video-supported drills into open-water preparation. On the run, aerobic development gives way to threshold work and race-pace execution, preparing you for three 7 km loops where patience early can matter as much as speed late.
Masters-focused strength sessions support durability and muscle maintenance throughout the plan, while Garmin and compatible training platforms make structured workouts easy to follow.
The plan also includes the Race Predictor Calculator to estimate potential performance, the Race Pace Strategy Calculator to organize your swim, bike, and run approach, and the Triathlon Fueling Calculator to build a practical fueling plan.
Personalized email coach support is included, giving you access to guidance when training, pacing, or race-preparation questions arise.
Choose this plan if you want a longer, carefully phased path to Versailles that balances performance development with recovery, durability, and real-world training bandwidth.
