When preparing for Lima and wanting more time to build fitness without feeling rushed, this 44-week Senior 60+ program gives you the runway to progress gradually and arrive at race week prepared rather than simply trained.
The first 12 weeks begin at about 4 hours per week, rebuilding aerobic fitness, strength, mobility, and efficient movement before the workload increases. The following 32 weeks become more race-specific, eventually reaching approximately 12.5 hours per week through brick sessions, pacing work, threshold training, VO₂ max intervals, and longer endurance sessions.
That progression fits Lima well because disciplined pacing and efficient movement matter throughout the course.
The race begins with a 1.9 km (1.2-mile) swim from Agua Dulce Beach in Chorrillos. Late-April water temperatures are typically around 19–21°C (67–70°F). Because the swim takes place in the Pacific Ocean, athletes should also be prepared for possible swell, surface chop, and more demanding sighting conditions. Technique-driven swim sessions help improve efficiency and conserve energy for the bike.
The 90 km (56-mile) bike follows the Costa Verde, with roughly 373 m (1,224 ft) of climbing listed in official course information. Long, fast sections are mixed with short rises, turns, and coastal winds averaging about 12–13 km/h (7.6–8.2 mph). Power-, heart-rate-, and RPE-based workouts teach you to control effort across changing conditions rather than react to speed alone.
The final 21.1 km (13.1-mile) run is largely flat and fast. Daytime temperatures can reach the mid-20s°C (mid-70s°F), so pacing, fueling, and hydration remain important. Brick training, neuromuscular work, and sustained aerobic conditioning help your legs stay efficient as fatigue builds.
With 44 weeks available, B and C races can serve as rehearsals for pacing, equipment, transitions, fueling, and race-day decisions before Lima. A senior-specific 2:1 work-to-recovery structure supports adaptation, while resistance training helps maintain muscle mass, bone health, mobility, and durability.
Also included are the Race Predictor Calculator to estimate performance, the Race Pace Strategy Calculator to organize swim, bike, and run execution, and the Triathlon Fueling Calculator to develop your race nutrition approach.
For athletes age 60 and over, this Half Distance Triathlon preparation provides the time to build patiently, test what works, and reach Lima ready for race day.
