A 44-week runway gives you something most senior athletes need when preparing for the Half Distance Triathlon San Juan Argentina: time to build fitness without rushing it.
This triathlon training plan is designed for athletes 60 and over who are new to longer-course racing, returning after time away, or simply want a more gradual path to race day. The first 12 weeks focus on aerobic conditioning, mobility, technique, and strength. Weekly training starts at about 4 hours and builds progressively, giving your body time to adapt before the demands increase.
That foundation leads into 32 weeks of more specific Half Distance Triathlon preparation. For the 1.9 km swim at Punta Negra Dam, technique-driven swim sessions and drill progressions help improve efficiency and confidence in open water. With average water temperatures around 68°F and a rolling start, learning to settle quickly into a sustainable rhythm can make the opening leg much more controlled.
The 90 km bike through Ullúm and Rivadavia is fast and rolling rather than completely flat. Long aerobic rides, power, heart-rate, and RPE-based sessions, plus targeted VO₂ max and pacing work, help you handle changes in terrain without burning too much energy before the run.
San Juan’s 21.1 km run is flat, fast, and split over three loops through the city. Brick workouts, neuromuscular drills, and progressive running prepare you to transition well, stay efficient, and hold pace as fatigue accumulates.
The plan also gives you room to use B and C races as practical checkpoints before your main event. These lower-priority races can help you test pacing, transitions, equipment, and fueling before the Half Distance Triathlon San Juan Argentina.
Recovery is built into the plan with a 2:1 work-to-recovery structure, while resistance training supports muscle mass, bone health, mobility, and long-term durability. Peak training reaches about 12.5 hours per week.
Also included are three race-readiness calculators: the Race Predictor Calculator to estimate performance, the Race Pace Strategy Calculator to organize swim, bike, and run execution, and the Triathlon Fueling Calculator to build your race-day fueling approach.
If you want a patient, age-aware progression toward San Juan, this plan gives you the time and structure to arrive prepared rather than rushed.
