Planning a move up to the Half Distance Triathlon San Juan Argentina at age 60+ calls for more than simply adding mileage. This 36-week triathlon training plan gives you time to rebuild fitness, develop race-specific endurance, and prepare for San Juan’s course without forcing the process.
The first 12 weeks are devoted to rebuilding your base. That matters if you are coming back after time away from training or moving up from Sprint or Olympic distance. Aerobic work, swim technique, mobility, and strength training gradually re-establish the durability you will need before the harder race-specific work begins.
From there, the plan progresses into 24 weeks of build and peak training. For the 1.9 km swim at Punta Negra Dam, structured swim sessions and video-guided drills improve efficiency and help you settle into a controlled rhythm for the rolling start and likely wetsuit-legal conditions.
San Juan’s 90 km bike course is fast but not completely flat. The rolling roads through Ullúm and Rivadavia reward athletes who can manage changing terrain without over-riding early. Heart-rate and power-based workouts, tempo sessions, threshold work, and brick training help you develop the endurance and pacing discipline to ride strongly while saving enough for the run.
The final 21.1 km is a flat, three-loop run through downtown San Juan. That makes consistency especially important. Progressive running, neuromuscular work, and bike-to-run sessions prepare you to hold form and pace when fatigue begins to build.
Because this plan is designed for senior triathletes 60+, recovery is built into the structure rather than treated as an afterthought. A 2:1 work-to-recovery rhythm, integrated strength training, and weekly volume that grows from about 7.5 to 12 hours help support performance while reducing unnecessary training stress.
Three race-readiness calculators are also included with the plan. The Race Predictor Calculator helps estimate likely performance, the Race Pace Strategy Calculator helps organize swim, bike, and run execution, and the Triathlon Fueling Calculator helps you build a practical race-day fueling approach.
If you want a longer runway to prepare for the Half Distance Triathlon San Juan Argentina, this plan gives you a measured progression from base fitness to race-specific readiness, with the needs of athletes 60 and over built into every phase.
