If you are an experienced triathlete over 60 preparing for the Half Distance Triathlon San Juan Argentina, this 24-week plan is built to help you arrive fit, durable, and ready to race the course rather than simply complete the distance.
The swim at Punta Negra Dam is 1.9 km in clear freshwater, with temperatures around 68°F and a rolling start. Your swim training focuses on steady aerobic endurance, efficient technique, and maintaining a relaxed rhythm so you can get through the opening leg without spending unnecessary energy.
From there, the 90 km bike course moves through the rolling roads of Ullúm and Rivadavia, including Route 60 and the Interlagos Route. This is where controlled effort matters. The plan uses progressive endurance rides, heart-rate and power-based sessions, and carefully placed threshold and VO2 max work to help you ride strongly over changing terrain while still protecting your legs for the run.
San Juan finishes with a flat, fast 21.1 km run through the city. The three-loop format makes pacing discipline especially important. Progressive run training, transition sessions, and neuromuscular work help you settle into a sustainable pace off the bike and hold your form as fatigue builds.
For athletes 60 and over, recovery is just as important as the harder sessions. That is why this Half Distance Triathlon training plan follows a 2:1 build-and-recovery structure. Weekly training begins around 7.5 hours and gradually reaches approximately 12.5 hours, giving you enough work to improve without simply adding volume for the sake of it.
Strength training is also built into the program to support muscle retention, bone health, mobility, and durability. Higher-intensity sessions are introduced strategically to help maintain aerobic power and speed while respecting the additional recovery needs that often come with age.
You will also have three race-readiness calculators included with the plan. Use the Race Predictor Calculator to estimate your performance, the Race Pace Strategy Calculator to organize your swim, bike, and run pacing, and the Triathlon Fueling Calculator to build a practical fueling strategy before race day.
This plan is best suited to athletes already comfortable swimming 1,500 meters, cycling 30 miles, and running 5 miles. If that sounds like your current fitness, it provides a practical, structured path toward racing the Half Distance Triathlon San Juan Argentina with confidence and control.
