You have the speed and experience from Sprint and Olympic-distance racing. What you need now is enough time to rebuild endurance, extend that speed, and prepare specifically for the demands of the Half Distance Triathlon Doha Qatar.
That is where this 36-week triathlon training plan fits.
Months 1–3: Rebuild with purpose
The first 12 weeks restore aerobic fitness, reinforce strength, and sharpen swim technique. If your recent endurance training has been inconsistent, this phase gives you the runway to regain structure before the more demanding Half Distance Triathlon work begins.
Months 4–9: Convert fitness into race performance
The following 24 weeks increase training volume from approximately 7.5 hours to about 12 hours per week. Tempo sessions, open-water swimming, progressive brick workouts, VO₂ intervals, anaerobic threshold training, and structured endurance work gradually shift the focus from preparation to performance.
A 3-week build followed by 1 week of active recovery keeps the progression controlled. Heart rate and power-based sessions add precision, and compatible workouts can sync with Garmin devices.
Doha rewards that kind of preparation.
The sheltered 1.9km swim in Old Doha Port favors efficient technique and controlled pacing. Swim drills and open-water work help you arrive at the bike with less wasted energy.
The fast 90km course through Doha places a premium on sustained effort. Tempo, threshold, and power-guided training help you ride strongly without turning the opening half of the bike into a pacing mistake.
Then comes the 21.1km run through the Mina District. Progressive brick training teaches you to transition from cycling to running under fatigue, while endurance and threshold work help you maintain pace deeper into the final leg.
Included with your training plan are three race-readiness tools:
Race Predictor Calculator — estimate potential performance
Race Pace Strategy Calculator — organize swim, bike, and run pacing
Triathlon Fueling Calculator — build your race-day fueling approach
For the Competitive Intermediate athlete, the goal is not simply to complete the Half Distance Triathlon. It is to arrive with enough endurance, pacing discipline, and race-specific fitness to compete well.
Use the full 36 weeks to rebuild, progress, and sharpen for Doha with a structured path from your first base session to race day.
