With a little fitness behind you and a little time, you can also complete your first Half Distance or 70.3 distance triathlon. This training plan is perfect for both beginners and athletes are low on time to train. You should probably be giving yourself a little more than 8 weeks of training, but if you are limited for time, this training plan will help you get ready for a Half Distance or 70.3 distance triathlon.
Athlete should have some basic fitness behind them and be able to swim comfortably for 500m in a pool. A large portion of the training in this plan is time based, meaning there is a lot less pressure on the athlete to be covering a certain amount of distance in training sessions, but instead the athlete is to spend "time" on their feet. This will help them get a better feel for intensities and help an intermediate athlete get ready for a 70.3 Ironman Triathlon.
The goal of this training plan is to build consistency in your training, but with the limited time and plan only running for 8 weeks. The plan starts with 6 training days from the first week and will build up to just under 8 hours of training a week. Long bike rides start at 90 minutes, building to 2 hours 30 minutes, and long runs start at 60 minutes and build up to just under 2 hours. Most days consist of only one training session. The weekends are where the training plan add extra training sessions including brick sessions and a race simulation on week 6 of the training plan.
