Built for athletes who want to perform with confidence on race day, this 44-week Half Distance Triathlon Training Plan prepares you to take on Alghero’s stunning coastal course — from the calm emerald waters of San Giovanni Beach to the rolling 90 km ride through Porto Conte Natural Park and the spirited run along the harbor and seafront wall.
🔥 12-Week Base Phase – Build lasting aerobic endurance with no prior base required. You’ll develop swim technique, bike handling, and run efficiency — setting the stage for peak performance.
📆 32-Week Specific Phase – A structured 3-week load / 1-week recovery rhythm balances stress and adaptation. You’ll gain strength for the 850 m of climbing and stamina for the three-loop coastal run that defines Alghero’s Half Distance Triathlon.
💪 Functional + Traditional Strength Training – Progressive sessions enhance core stability and muscular resilience for sustained power on the bike and fluid run form off it.
🏊 Swim Confidence – Race-specific open-water sets simulate the protected bay’s mild conditions (~18 °C) to sharpen pacing and sighting.
🚴 Bike Power & Endurance – Threshold and tempo rides mirror the island’s undulating terrain and Mediterranean winds, helping you sustain effort across the 90 km loop.
🏃 Run Durability & Pacing – Brick sessions and negative-split workouts prepare you for Alghero’s flat-to-slightly-rolling coastal route and energetic finish through the old-town streets.
