Plan Description

This 36-week Half Distance Triathlon training plan is built to prepare athletes aged 60+ for the breathtaking course of Alghero, Italy—from the calm emerald waters of San Giovanni Beach to the rolling, Mediterranean roads of Porto Conte and the seaside run through Alghero’s historic streets. Every session is crafted to mirror the terrain, rhythm, and energy demands of race day, helping you arrive confident, conditioned, and ready to perform.

🌊 Swim Readiness for the Bay of Alghero
The plan’s early swim sessions emphasize technique, breathing efficiency, and open-water comfort, replicating the 1.9 km protected bay swim. Structured drills and video guidance help improve stroke form and sighting—skills essential in calm but variable coastal conditions (≈18°C in May).

🚴 Bike Conditioning for the Porto Conte Loop
With the 90 km single-loop course offering about 850 m of elevation gain, the program integrates power-based endurance rides, tempo efforts, and sustained climbs to match the terrain. Brick sessions teach smooth transitions from bike to run, mirroring the return along the beach into town.

🏃 Run Strength for the Coastal Loops
The 3-loop, mostly flat run course demands efficient pacing and resilience. This plan builds both through threshold runs, aerobic base sessions, and cadence-focused drills—perfect for navigating Alghero’s scenic seafront and cobbled old-town sections.
