The Half Distance Triathlon in Alghero, Italy, is a breathtaking but challenging race set against the turquoise waters of the Sardinian coast. This 24-week structured Half Distance Triathlon training plan is precisely engineered to prepare you for every element of this course — from the calm, emerald-green swim in San Giovanni Bay to the rolling coastal climbs and fast run through Alghero’s old-town streets.

🌊 Swim Preparedness
Your plan builds open-water confidence through progressive endurance sets, sighting practice, and pacing control — essential for navigating the 1.9 km loop in shallow, sheltered waters averaging 18 °C. Drills focus on bilateral breathing and efficient body rotation, helping you stay relaxed and streamlined across each stroke while adjusting smoothly to wetsuit buoyancy and saltwater conditions.

🚴‍♂️ Bike Performance & Power
The single-loop 90 km bike course includes about 850 m of climbing around the Porto Conte Natural Park. Power-based intervals, threshold climbs, and cadence control workouts simulate this terrain, training you to handle long ascents and coastal crosswinds with precision. You’ll develop the muscular endurance to maintain steady wattage and the efficiency to descend safely while keeping power consistent into the final kilometers back to the harbor.

With race-day temperatures near 31 °C, our run blocks emphasize pacing control, hydration strategies, and heat-acclimation sessions.
