Racing the Half Distance Triathlon in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain means experiencing one of Europe’s most scenic courses—from the calm waters of Ulibarri-Gamboa Lake to the rolling countryside of Álava and the electric atmosphere of downtown Vitoria-Gasteiz. This six-month beginner’s Half Distance Triathlon training plan is designed to prepare you for every challenge the course presents.

✅ Built for Beginners: Designed for athletes stepping up to the Half Distance Triathlon, this plan provides a clear and structured pathway to race-day success. A 4–6 week aerobic base before starting ensures you’re ready to build endurance.

✅ Swim Preparedness: With focused swim technique sessions, open-water drills, and endurance sets, you’ll be ready for the 1.9 km lake swim in the pristine waters of Landa Provincial Park—flat, clear, and confidence-building.

✅ Bike Readiness: Structured bike workouts, interval sessions, and endurance rides prepare you for the single 90 km loop. With 500 m of climbing, smooth gradients, and stretches along the Camino de Santiago, you’ll develop both power and efficiency to enjoy the ride and stay strong into the run.

✅ Run Conditioning: The two-loop 21.1 km run through downtown Vitoria-Gasteiz is flat, fast, and filled with crowd support. Tempo runs, interval sessions, and pacing strategies in this plan prepare you to run confidently through the historic city streets and finish strong in Plaza España.
