This 44-week Half Distance Triathlon Omaha training plan is designed specifically for senior athletes aged 60 and above, providing a structured, safe, and progressive approach to prepare you for race day. Whether you’re returning to endurance sports or taking on your first Half Distance Triathlon, this plan equips you with the fitness, technique, and confidence to perform at your best.

🏊 Swim Preparation: The plan develops strength, endurance, and efficiency for the 1.2-mile swim at Lake Cunningham. Gradual base-building and technique-focused sessions improve your stroke, breathing, and open-water comfort, making the calm yet expansive reservoir swim feel manageable and controlled.

🚴 Bike Readiness: With a 56-mile course featuring rolling hills, scenic farmlands, and city approaches, the training plan incorporates endurance rides, hill simulations, and pacing strategies to mirror Nebraska’s countryside and urban transitions. Brick sessions connect cycling to running, ensuring smooth energy transitions on race day.

🏃 Run Optimization: The 13.1-mile run along the Missouri River, over the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge, and past Council Bluffs requires stamina and joint resilience. The plan builds aerobic capacity, strengthens muscles and bones, and integrates interval work to maintain speed, all while protecting aging joints.
