Plan Description

Racing the Half Distance Triathlon in Omaha means taking on a calm yet fast swim in Lake Cunningham, powering through rolling Nebraska farmlands, and finishing with an iconic run over the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge. This 36-week Half Distance Triathlon training plan is built to prepare you for every challenge and opportunity on race day — from your first stroke to your final sprint down the finish chute near downtown Omaha.

✅ Swim-Ready Confidence – The program’s base phase develops strong technique and endurance for the single-loop, 1.2-mile Lake Cunningham swim. Open water workouts and sighting drills help you handle calm but competitive conditions.

✅ Bike Strength for Omaha’s Rolling Terrain – Structured cycling sessions, hill repeats, and long endurance rides are tailored for the scenic 56-mile ride through Douglas County’s climbs, descents, and sweeping rural roads — so you’re ready to ride efficiently into the city’s final push toward the Missouri River.

✅ Run Power for the Riverfront – Progressive brick workouts, tempo runs, and threshold sessions prepare you for the flat but mentally demanding 13.1-mile run along the Missouri River, over to Council Bluffs, and back on the Bob Kerrey Bridge.

✅ Periodized Training Structure – A 12-week base phase builds durability, followed by 24 weeks of race-specific Half Distance Triathlon preparation. Each cycle follows a proven 3-week build / 1-week recovery format, maximizing adaptation while avoiding burnout.

✅ Fully Integrated Technology – All workouts are heart rate and power-based, ready to sync with your Garmin device for seamless execution and tracking.

✅ Strength, Recovery & Speed – Includes targeted strength sessions, proper warm-ups, mobility work, and advanced VO₂ max intervals to keep you sharp from start to finish.
