The Middle Distance Triathlon in Sanremo is a course that rewards preparation, precision, and mental grit. This 44-week Intermediate Triathlon Training Plan is built to match the race’s exact demands—so when you dive into the Ligurian Sea, climb toward Passo Ghimbegna, and stride along the sunlit coastal run, you’ll be ready to perform at your absolute best.

✅ Swim Ready for the Ligurian Sea – Our program includes progressive open-water swim sessions and sighting drills to prepare you for Sanremo’s calm but salty waters, ensuring you maintain efficiency and rhythm from the first buoy to the beach exit.

✅ Climbing & Descending Mastery – The 90 km bike route features a 17 km ascent to Passo Ghimbegna and the technical Poggio di Sanremo descent. Structured hill repeats, sustained climbing sessions, and bike handling drills make steep gradients and switchbacks feel second nature.

✅ Endurance for a Fast Coastal Run – The 21.1 km run is flat and fast, with the unique Capo Nero tunnel section. Our tempo runs, brick workouts, and pacing strategies build the stamina to hold speed while adapting to terrain changes.

✅ Complete Athletic Development – From aerobic base building to VO₂ max intervals, strength training, and anaerobic threshold work, every phase builds the resilience and speed you’ll need for Sanremo’s diverse course profile.

✅ Structured for Growth – Begin with a 12-week endurance base, then shift into 32 weeks of focused Middle Distance Triathlon preparation, ramping from 9 to 14 training hours per week for optimal adaptation without burnout.

✅ Race Simulation & Confidence Building – Strategic “B” and “C” races serve as checkpoints, letting you refine fueling, pacing, and gear choices before your A-race in Italy.
