Plan Description

This 44-week Middle Distance Triathlon training plan is designed specifically for Masters athletes 40+ preparing for the Sandefjord Norway Middle Distance Triathlon. It focuses on building endurance, strength, injury prevention, and sustainable progress—helping you race strong and confidently.

The 1.9km swim takes place in sheltered fjord waters with a unique Australian exit after the first lap. The plan includes progressive swim sessions and video-guided drills to improve stroke efficiency and endurance, while preparing you for the rolling start and cooler 18-20°C water temperatures.

The 90km bike course is two laps through rolling Norwegian countryside, with curves, flats, and historical landmarks. Bike workouts develop strength and stamina for varied terrain and help you manage open roads with traffic. Brick sessions build race-specific fitness by training bike-to-run transitions, crucial for Masters athletes to maintain pace and reduce fatigue.

The 21.1km run is flat and four laps through Sandefjord’s city center with two aid stations. Interval and endurance runs mimic the race lap structure to build pacing skills and consistency—key for a strong finish at the city park by the Whalers’ Monument.
