Racing the Middle Distance Triathlon in Sandefjord, Norway means preparing for a unique blend of scenic beauty, technical demands, and endurance challenges. This six-month Half Distance Triathlon Training Plan is purpose-built for competitive Masters athletes over 40, giving you the fitness, skill, and confidence to thrive on race day.

From the sheltered 1.9km swim in Sandefjordsfjorden to the rolling 90km bike course past Viking heritage sites, and the fast, flat 21.1km run through Sandefjord’s city center, this plan mirrors the race demands so you’re fully prepared. The structured sessions ensure you can:

✅ Swim with strength & control – Open-water workouts simulate the rolling start and Australian exit, so you can maintain pace and efficiency across both laps.
✅ Master varied terrain on the bike – Progressive long rides, tempo sessions, and power-based intervals prepare you for the course’s rolling profile, curves, and sustained flat sections, while building the stamina to handle two laps without fading.
✅ Run strong off the bike – Brick sessions train your legs to transition smoothly into a consistent pace on the four-lap, aid-station-supported city course.
