Plan Description

Prepare with confidence for the Middle Distance Triathlon in Sandefjord, Norway—a race that combines a stunning fjord swim, a scenic yet challenging bike through the countryside, and a flat, fast-paced run in the heart of the city. This advanced 24-week triathlon training plan is purpose-built to help high-performance amateur athletes like you thrive on race day.

⚠️ Prerequisite Training Required:
Before beginning, ensure you’ve established a solid aerobic foundation. This plan kicks off at an advanced level—starting with 9 hours of training in week one and building to a peak of 14.5 hours in week 19. Athletes should have a base level of fitness and be comfortable with structured interval training, including anaerobic threshold and VO₂ max efforts.

🌊 Swim Training Tailored for Sandefjordsfjorden:
Master the 1.9km swim with targeted sessions that develop open water confidence, pacing, and sighting—ideal for the rolling start and Australian exit format. Pool workouts come preloaded with watch-based instructions, eliminating the need for printouts at the pool.

🚴‍♂️ Bike Workouts Designed for Norway’s Rolling Terrain:
Tackle the 90km, two-lap bike course with specific sessions that simulate long flats, rolling hills, and cornering—exactly what you’ll face riding through Døla Hill and past Viking heritage sites. You'll gain strength, stamina, and technical control for roads open to traffic.

🏃‍♂️ Run Strong Through the City Center:
Build efficiency and endurance for the flat 21.1km, four-lap run through Sandefjord. Training includes tempo runs, pacing drills, and frequent brick workouts to ensure smooth transitions and strong finishes—right into the city park at the Whalers' Monument.
