If you’re racing the Half Distance Triathlon in stunning Wānaka, New Zealand, our Intermediate 36-Week Half Distance Triathlon Training Plan is built to help you succeed on this breathtaking yet demanding course.

🏊‍♂️ Swim Smart in Lake Wānaka
With crystal-clear 15°C alpine waters and the potential for choppy wind conditions, Roys Bay requires not just endurance but open water skill. Our training plan incorporates structured swim sets that build technique, strength, and open-water confidence. Expect focused drills, tempo swims, and long continuous efforts—perfectly suited for the single-lap 1.9 km rectangular course.

🚴‍♂️ Crush the Rolling Bike Course
The 90 km ride to Treble Cone Ski Field features rolling terrain, punchy climbs, and epic alpine scenery. To prepare, we layer in progressive bike workouts—tempo intervals, hill reps, and endurance rides based on power and heart rate zones. Two-loop training simulations mirror race-day conditions, so you’re ready for both the physical and mental challenge.

🏃‍♂️ Run Strong on the Lakeside Trails
The 21.1 km run includes a scenic but sneaky-steep climb at the 7 km mark. We’ve got you covered with steady-state runs, threshold intervals, and long bricks that build stamina and mental grit. You’ll master running on mixed terrain and arrive in Wānaka ready to attack the two-loop lakeside course with confidence.
