This stunning yet challenging race demands more than just determination—it requires strategic, race-specific preparation. Our 24-week Half Distance Triathlon Training Plan is designed to help you build strength, boost endurance, and tackle every part of the course with confidence.

⚠️ Prerequisite Training Required
Before you dive in, ensure you’ve built a solid Aerobic Base. This plan kicks off at a high level—starting with 9 hours in Week 1 and including VO2 max and Anaerobic Threshold training from the start. It's crafted for high-performing amateur triathletes who are already training consistently and are ready to push beyond comfort.

🏊‍♂️ Swim Ready for Roys Bay
Lake Wānaka’s crisp 15°C alpine waters demand wetsuit experience and open water confidence. You’ll train with progressive open water drills, sighting practice, and cold-water swim sets, all delivered directly to your Garmin-compatible device—no printouts needed. Prepare for potential wind-driven chop and a strong, confident start.

🚴 Master the Rolling Bike Course to Treble Cone
The 90 km out-and-back course includes smooth roads, lake views, and punchy climbs. Our plan includes power-based intervals, climbing sets, and functional strength work to help you maintain output and efficiency on every incline—just like the real course demands.

🏃 Dominate the Lakeside Run Course
Wānaka’s 21.1 km run course is scenic yet strategic, featuring trail terrain, gentle undulations, and one steep hill at 7 km. You’ll train with tempo runs, hill repeats, and bike-run brick workouts to build strength and resilience off the bike, so you can finish strong where it counts.
