Plan Description

This six-month Half Distance Triathlon Training Plan is purpose-built for Masters athletes over 40, and it’s engineered to prepare you for the demands of the Valdivia Half Distance Triathlon — one of South America's most scenic and dynamic race courses.

With a 1.9 km point-to-point swim in the clear, cool waters of the Calle-Calle River, a 90 km ride through Valdivia’s undulating countryside, and a flat, fast 21.1 km run through its urban core, this event demands more than general fitness — it requires race-specific preparation. That’s exactly what this training plan delivers if your currently fit and can complete an Olympic distance event.

✅ Open Water Swim Readiness
Structured swim workouts (plus expert-led video drills) simulate the long, continuous effort required in Valdivia’s wetsuit-legal swim. You’ll build stamina, refine sighting technique, and improve confidence in cool water.

✅ Bike Strength for Rolling Terrain
With 1,400 ft of elevation and fast flats, Valdivia’s bike course rewards athletes who can handle short steep climbs and sustain strong effort. This plan includes terrain-specific intervals, muscular endurance rides, and recovery balance—ideal for nailing this course.

✅ Run Durability & Pace Control
The mostly flat half-marathon begins in Saval Park and finishes by the Calle-Calle River. You’ll train on steady efforts and negative splits to simulate this fast course and cross the finish line strong.

✅ Built for Masters Athletes
Progressive 3:1 periodization, age-specific strength work, and a smart weekly build (7.5–12.5 hrs) ensure consistent progress without burnout. You’ll train smarter, not harder.
