The Half Distance Triathlon Acapulco, Mexico is a high-heat, high-challenge course that demands smart preparation, strategic pacing, and bulletproof endurance. This six-month training plan, designed for competitive Masters triathletes over 40, (who currently have a solid base of fitness), is built to meet the demands of this race—swimming in warm surf, climbing steep grades on the bike, and running under intense tropical sun.

🌊 Prepare for the Open-Water Swim at Playa Majahua
With average temps of 84°F (29°C), your swim sessions include pace-specific endurance intervals and video-supported drills to help you stay efficient, relaxed, and race-ready—perfect for tackling the rolling start and warm conditions of Acapulco’s coastal swim.

🚴‍♂️ Master the Rolling, 1,600-Meter Gain Bike Course
The plan emphasizes power-building workouts and sustained tempo rides that mirror the 600-meter climb and long descents on Viaducto Diamante. Expect workouts that train both climbing strength and descending control, preparing you to ride strong from start to finish.

🏃 Run Strong in the 88°F (31°C) Heat
You’ll complete key brick sessions and heat-adaptation strategies that prepare you to run fast and efficiently on Acapulco’s flat, fast Av de las Palmas. Frequent aid station pacing simulations help dial in your hydration and nutrition strategy so you can finish strong when it counts.
