Ready to take on the Half Distance Triathlon Les Sables d’Olonne? Our Intermediate 24-Week Half Distance Triathlon Training Plan is designed to get you across the finish line strong, confident, and ready for the unique demands of this iconic event.

This structured plan prepares you specifically for the swim in the Vendée Globe canal, the 91 km bike through the Vendée region, and the two-lap run along Les Remblai promenade—all within the 5 hour and 30 minute combined swim-bike cut-off. Before beginning be sure to have a solid base of endurance training as you'll encounter a V02 session in week One.

✅ Builds Canal Swim Confidence
Training includes open water swim drills and pacing strategies tailored to point-to-point courses like the Vendée Globe canal. You'll practice sighting, adapting to current conditions, and maintaining stroke efficiency over longer distances.

🚴‍♂️ Targets the 91 km Bike Challenge
The plan progressively prepares you for sustained efforts across the 600 meters of elevation on race day. Focused power-based sessions and long rides simulate the varied terrain—from forested stretches to exposed coastal winds—so you're ready physically and mentally.

🏃‍♂️ Prepares You for the Flat, Scenic Run
With structured run workouts along with brick sessions, you’ll train to run efficiently after the bike. Special emphasis is placed on pacing strategies and strength to handle the short but taxing 200-meter beach segment and transitions around Lake Tanchet.

A smart 3-weeks-on, 1-week-off cycle allows your body time to adapt and recover. This built-in recovery reduces overtraining risk while still promoting steady endurance and speed gains.
